So we had 7 turn out for the 1st of our 5 regionals. The format was Constructed 2E and here were the immortals:
Chris (me) - Ramirez
Jon - Methos
Cat - Felice Martin
Ryan - Rebecca Horne
Carlos - Connor
Geoff - Slan
Jason - YDK
We played 3 rounds of Swiss format. Differential in Swiss works as a tier 1 tie-breaker, with strength of schedule being the tier 2 tie-breaker. If you get a head shot you get +2, +1 for a regular win, +0 for a loss, and -1 for losing your head. We have played with this format for awhile and if you ever read my posts before I believe it is vastly superior to double elimination and still keeps the flavor of Highlander tcg.
Round 1 - vs. Ryan (Rebecca)
He avoids my barrage of head shots like a pro and starts chipping away at my life with a large number of attacks. He exhausts, and I hit him with a 3-point Connor slash (+1 because of my master Dodge). His hand starts clogging and I smell blood. I throw out my patented Teacher of Many, Connor Slash, Lunging, Head Shot and it takes his head. Very close game that could have gone either way. He had me down to 8 and then got clogged with not useful cards. Record 1-0 (+2)
Round 2 - vs. Carlos (Connor)
We are both playing Head shot decks and mine is a little better mid to late game because I play the Nexus promo and the A&T Discard reshuffle. We both are dodging like crazy but the attrition game starts to add up for him since he keeps exhausting. Eventually one of mine goes through and that is that. As a note Carlos' deck is a work in progress and once he gets the cards he needs his deck will be a monster. Record 2-0 (+4)
Round 3 - vs. Jon (Methos)
Jon is playing with the beginnings of a Methos deck which contains only 3 Benefits of Experience. However, we are the only undefeated players left. He still manages to take it to time with the score 15-14 my favor. The only damage came from a Rush. We both are losing life and still not doing anything when I exhaust first and he follows shortly after. I get in 1 more point to edge him out bya turn. The scary thing here is that I must have thrown 20 head shots at him and 15 of them had to be lunging and it did nothing. Methos is going to be pretty scary in a month when he gets all his cards. Record 3-0 (+5)
Standings:
1st: Chris (Ramirez) 3-0 (+5)
2nd: Cat (Felice) 2-1 (+4)
3rd: Jon (Methos) 2-1 (+3)
4th: Ryan (Rebecca) 2-1 (+2)
5th: Jason (YDK) 1-2 (+0)
6th: Geoff (Slan) 1-2 (-1)
7th: Carlos (Connor) 1-2 (-1)
It feels pretty good to be Regional Champ. We still have 4 more regionals though and Season 3 has not hit yet. May 9th is 2E Lean and Mean. Big props to Metro Entertainment for holding a nice tourney. Thanks to the company for getting us prize support. The only bummer was the season 2 promos that we have a billion of already. Thanks to all the players who showed including Geoff who is just getting back into the swing of things. He is an awesome guy that any group of players would be glad to have.
Take care,
Chris
