Ah. Does anybody know the answer? Tim Small does, and he already posted the answer. In his post without text. Which I take as his way to tell us the answer without telling us the answer. My translation of his smiley faces would indicate that we will not be seeing his face. If Sager couldn't afford it years ago, do you think that 1) the price went down 2) Sager has piles of money to spend at this stage of 2nd edition? Conspiracy theory time, based on my opinons only as I don't have access to soild facts. Sager is putting out Beta edition to generate the cash he needs to print the next release-or no major printer will work with him again. Especially if he is using POD technology. Thus the reason for the limping along release schedule in 2007. Release a small set, sell enough to print the next one. Toss in chase cards to force the purchase of X boxes per customer. He's even said that the packing of 3 chase cards per box was an error-why give the average customer a break when it affects his bottom line/marketing plan? The real purpose of the Beta set is to generate some money now and set up the fans to consume the following sets. Otherwise, why release a Beta set? Normal product development would have the Beta set released only behind the scenes for playtesting. Then you put out a final product for general release. Look at the way this 2nd edition is rolling out and think about it. I'm just wondering if he's actually paying real money to the people who are working on these sets or if they are "volunteers"? If their "pay" is a promise of free future product, etc., I feel sorry for them. It's obvious that the design team has put alot of thought and effort in 2E and I would hope they are rewarded justly for said effort. End my conspiracy rant. CSMOKEMAN

I didn't even see the smileys. For some reason at that time my browser was creeping along and they never loaded.

I do not like the release date set up either. Frankly I would prefer more indepth play testing for each set. Also you have to figure that we have a limited number of movies and seasons to work with. So that means either a fianite number of sets or we would need to do somthing other then movie and season sets, kind of like arms and tactics.

Regarding release dates, this set was shipped on it's release date. A lot of other games will ship prior to that so they arrive on or before the release date and the store can then release on schedule. Will that be done for future sets, or perhaps as an incentive to order direct from Sager (via the web page or future Ebay auctions)?

The reason for the delay was so we could mark the cards with 2nd Ed markers so the 1st edition cards could play with the a lot of the new cards.

Sweet! I think I mentioned on the mailing lists that the 2E marker is one of the best ideas I've seen for a card game in a long time.

I have been a highlander fan for a long time now but this troubles me. The frantic release schedule of future product says many things to me. First it tells me that this game will burn out quickly at the rate they are going because there are only so many movies and episodes. This also leads me to believe that they may be attempting to get us to buy as much as they can as quickly as they can just in case 2e doesn't take off. Thats just my opinion so take it for what its worth.

If it's quality product and it comes out at a rate I can afford I honestly don't care if there's an "evil scheme" behind it. If it's not quality product or it comes out faster than my wallet can handle I'll have to skip sets or eventually skip the whole game. I truly hope it's the former.

There is no frantic pace, they are just taking advantage of new technology in printing. The # of cards you have to print are far fewer then before, thus allowing less risk producing sets. Also, There were over 1000 cards made in H1, It will take almost 1.5 years to release the older amount. -Ken Whitman www.rapidpod.com

About the game running out of Immortals to print: 1E did less than 40 Immortals, there were 80+ featured in the series, 20+ in the live action films (counting the to be released Source), plus the new anime coming out next year (with a new MacLeod dating from the Roman era) then there are the novels they printed and the comic book that has just started from Dynamite comics. I am not worried about the game out lasting its source material. Even if it is a solid enough seller to last the years it would take to print everyone, new stuff is always coming. And if we get really desperate they can do the animated tv show! I want my Quentin MacLeod Persona!! Just kidding!

We know that the release schedule seems accelerated, however, sets 1 and 2 are really one full edition. The release schedule that we anticipate are one base set per four months (the standard set by other companies) and one expansion on the base two months after the base. The expansions are meant to shake the tournament scene and fix problems that arise or to make an immortal that isn't all we had thought he would be much better on the tourney scene. Each set 'block' really only contains 225 cards. 775 new cards each year is actually under the industry average.
Thanks,
Brent
