Thunder Castle Games set are the ones I'm after. Since I came into the game after it bit the big one the first time around, i don't know what the better sets were.
Is The Watcher's Chronicle any good?

Thunder Castle Games set are the ones I'm after. Since I came into the game after it bit the big one the first time around, i don't know what the better sets were. Is The Watcher's Chronicle any good? Do you prefer movie or series immortals? That actually makes a difference in collecting older sets. 1. Series Edition was terrible - but you have to start somewhere. It was later reprinted as special tin sets with better card quality and updated erratta. 2. Movie Edition was great, but hard to find. 3. Watchers Chronicles was okay, but rarity distribution was sometimes off. Also, it took a whole CASE for a premium Darius! 4. The Gathering was mostly a Movie Edition reprint, and the card quality was less than average. 5. Arms & Tactics was a great set. Good balance (the starter decks actually had all of the basic attacks and blocks in them this time!), the card rarity distribution was good, and the cards were good quality. 6. The Four Horsemen was another great set, and the final official set released from TCG (if I recall correctly). No starters, but great boosters. That's about all I remember off the top of my head. cool, thanks.
I have 12 unopened booster boxes of Watchers in my closet that I will be opening this weekend. Maybe I will get a Darius!

the first set was awful qualitywise while arms&tactics takes it as the best overall - Weapons of Choice and the A&T pregames where amazing additions to the game. Watcher's Chronicles did have Kalas though and Four Horsemen had... well, three horseman and an annoying 3000 year old witch. I always hoped to see a non-tinset Methos with a different power in that set, but it wasn't to be.
Also, the collation of cards sucked in all of them, basics in boosters? let's hope that doesn't happen again.

I second the thought on collation. I'll second the motion that it needs to be improved. As far as cards you can abuse, you'll find them in all the sets (though the Duncan and Methos tin sets had the highest density of abusive cards).

Here's how I would rank the sets:
Movie Edition Arms & Tactics Watcher's Chronicle The Four Horsemen The Gatering Series Edition
Movie Edition is what started it all for me. At that time I hadn't seen the move since 1986 and it bored the hell out of me. My friends loved it though so we watched the Director's Cut and split a box of boosters (I got the Kurgan Gold!) and I was sold. The cards looked awesome, we got about 7 or 8 Rares in every pack and it has been my favorite game since.

I'd say
Arms & Tactics Movie Edition The Four Horsemen Watcher's Chronicle & Series Edition tied The Gathering
