Hey everyone. Ya, it's been a while since I've talked to some of you. There are some upcoming events I'd like to tell you about to introduce the new set and then provide a chance to participate in official tournaments. Sat., Jan. 20th from 1-4pm. I'll be at Changing Hands Book Shoppe, 6th & Virginia, Joplin, Mo. for demos and friendly games. It'll be a great opportunity to get your hands on the new cards and explore their new features. If you'd like a 'spoiler' list of the new cards before then, send me a note. Sat., Jan. 27th from 10am-4pm. Again at Changing Hands Book Shoppe. We'll have a sealed deck style tournament. I'll be using a modified version of my Pack Rat format designed to work with the new Second Edition rules. If you'd like more info on the format, let me know. It's basically designed to allow beginners to compete against veterans on a level playing field. The tournament cost will be one starter deck and 2 booster packs (approx. $21). These are warm-ups to VisionCon in Springfield, Mo. next month. VisionCon runs Fri.-Sun., Feb. 16th thru 18th. There are 4 scheduled events. The formats are still fairly flexible. Fri. 16th - 7 pm. - TCG Classic Lean & Mean (First Edition cards) Sat. 17th - 9 am. - Pack Rat Sealed Deck. (plan on using Second Edition) Sat. 17th - 2 pm. - Players Choice, format TBA Sun. 18th - 9 am. - Standard Constructed, Second Edition Any questions, contact me. You can keep up with these and other events at: CHBS: www.changinghandsjoplin.com/VCon: www.visioncon.net/Hope to see you there! Jeff Timi Joplin, Mo.

Jeff: Will these tournaments be santioned by the company? I've no idea whether or not they will be officially sanctioned, but having played in most, if not all, of Jeff's Highlander tourneys back in the old days, I expect prize support to be quite good. That having been said, Jeff, could you refresh my memory on the specifics of the Pack Rat format? Also, Jeff, any thoughts on getting another weekly Highlander league together, if there is enough players?

Sorry for the delay. work & the ice storm have just overloaded me. Here's the Pack Rat rules for Classic HL. I'm not sure yet how I'm gonna tweak them for H2E.
Pack Rat Sealed Deck format.
Start with 1 sealed starter deck and 2 sealed boosters of your choice. You open the starter deck first and examine it. You must include ALL cards in your deck. If you get a persona, You must play it. If you get multiple personas, you may only play ONE. You must play WOC pre-games but must abide by Hand Icon restrictions. All other pre-games MUST be played. There is no 6 pre-game limit. We then sit around a table and 'draft' the two boosters (one at a time). No deck building. You must include ALL cards in your deck. For purposes of card play, it is assumed that you have all personas and WOC's (but you don't get their powers unless you have the actual cards). That way, ALL persona specific and WOC cards can be played. All other cards must follow standard rules to be played, for instance Situation Plots still must be played in order. Unplayable cards with standard HL backs (Nexus membership, Duncan & Methos Collections, Cust. Satisfactions) are considered Master Swordsman cards. You may have more than 6 of a card type (i.e., draft all the Master Swordsmans you can get). During the May-Do phase, all players may discard a card from their hand and draw to replace it (i.e., 1 card Master Strat).
Any more questions, let me know. I'll be running demos (hopefully, if I'm not repairing ice storm damage) this Saturday at Changing Hands Book Shoppe in Joplin from about 1-4pm.
Later, Jeff

The Friday night event:
VisionCon Feb. 16th, Friday - 7 pm. - TCG Classic Lean & Mean (First Edition cards)
will be TCG Classic only. No MLE. No Raven. NO Q's.
Prize support so far will be coming from me. I have several Q's to choose from (maybe not your favorite though) and whatever else I can round up. By then I hope to have a good stock of H2E so possibly that could be added to the prize pool (Tim, Brent & Mike have threatened to show up :^).
BTW, I run all my tournaments using 20 minute rounds (usually round-robin style) with End Game rules. No Q's (unless specifically stated to be 'Allowed').
Any more questions, quickest way to contact me is email: jdtimi@swbell.net
Later all, Jeff
