In other posts we have argued about how to bring new people into the game and help them keep their heads and any Q's they may have picked up along the way. The Mentor idea is fine, but there is one way to bridge new players to a game with people who have 20+ years experience. We need some kind of new player starter set. The pre game cards all the old school people have are out of print and largely inaccessible to new people. I know Jim has a web store, but if a new player sits down with a VS deck, which has no toolbox and no generic pre games, he will last all of 3 rounds. How about a 'welcome' set, 1 generic Alertness, 1 generic pre game 'fetch' card, maybe 1 Guard or Evade. I strongly urge the inclusion of a generic pre game 'fetch' added to the prize kits, discard to get a sit, loc, etc. Maybe make that a participation card, like the Swordmaster rips and hand them out to anyone just starting out. Maybe make the VS decks a little fatter, adding at least one dual toolbox, or one each. Raise the price a few bucks or swap some of the other generic cards out. You could always buy the cards from warlock to include in the newer, fatter VS decks. The generic pre games, foil or non foil, could return as prize support. The Darius give away a few years back for regionals was a great idea, I gave away all my cards to new players. Sadly it didn't bring anyone new to our events but if the Omaha group or any others are getting new people they should have some nice incentive to draw players to the game. Just spitballing ideas to help the new players. Anyway...GO DODGERS!!!

I really like this idea, but I'd escalate it a bit: I'd create an affordable (that's key) pack that contains a bunch of WoC, Pre-games (including quickenings, rip cards, crystals, etc.), Weapon Specific Attacks, and Personas designed to jump start a player into being able to modify their deck. Basically a Generic Set, but for pregame and pregame related cards. Something significant (like 100 cards) that players would split among their group would go a long way to making this easier.

How much is "affordable" for this?

Wasn't there a generic revised 2E set a year or two ago? I recall it being quite good as a base set?

How much is "affordable" for this? I assume something on par with the Generic Set? That was 160 cards for about $50 if I recall?

I was leaning toward revising the revised set, enhancing the existing VS format by adding some needed basic cards. Really no need for a full expansion, I was thinking adding a few generic toolbox to the prize kits to hand out to a new player. The 'welcome' kit I proposed would just be a half dozen to dozen cards within the prize packs. A couple Alertness, dual toolbox, etc. I'm not sure what Jim R charges for the aforementioned cards, but groups that get and are able to cultivate new players should have first priority. It may add a couple bucks to prize support but when that new player faces his first UB/UD attack he will thank you. You could also add a business card to refer new players to warlocks site.
Just an idea....And please consider adding the pre game fetch cards to the prize support, at least to the groups that have newer players.

I have enough cards to be able to make up sets. Just let me know what’s a good selection of cards for the set. I have plenty of cards and pregame cards. I can sell on ebay

A starter set would be awesome not just for new players but for Stores to get behind the game again.
