After watching the Captain America: Civil War trailer last night, and lamenting the terrible play of the Marvel VS 2PCG (it's awful. Like, legit awful), I found myself wishing for a fan set of swordmaster rules with Marvel characters.
It'd be great. I've been a massive Cap fan since I was a kid (I have 5 different replica shields decorating my wall, and I own an autographed copy of every Marvel movie signed by the cast. that takes FOREVER FYI), so imaginine a Cap persona, with a Vibranium Shield weapon of choice, really really appeals to me.

As a designer, I would LOVE to do a hero game. The licensing for Marvel or DC right now would be hard because other card companies have games.

Oh clearly. We looked at a Marvel RPG license for my RPG company, and sadly, Marvel's price tag is outta almost everyone's limit. But a fan made set that can be printed at the player's cost would be awesome Hint hint.

I'm thinking something like:
Captain America (Persona) M - 6 A - 15 S - 15 T - 15 E - 15 R - 15
Your basic attacks count as Martial Arts attacks. You may decrease or increase the size of a Hard Exertion by 2.
Vibranium Shield (Weapon of Choice) 1 H or 2 H 1 Master Gem (or whatever) Upside: You may play basic blocks against ranged attacks. Basic Blocks count as Standing Defenses. Downside: You may not play Headshot cards.
I can think of tons of nemesis cards, block and strikes, etc. Man, I wish this was real.

Eh, it's just wishful thinking. You'd have to create your own Superhero universe, and then get custom art done, and that's expensive.

It's true. You can only do so much, and superheroes fans are an especially loyal brand. You'd want to go to someone like: Greater Than Games, and make a sword master game set in Sentinels of the Multiverse, and just use their heroes, to do hero v villain battles.
It'd be fun.

Just to throw this out once again: THE WALKING DEAD ccg/tcg. An example: Darryl Dixon Pregame-Hero-Tracker Hero-7 gems (replaces Master) Agility-8 Strength-7 Endurance-7 Empathy-9 Reason-7 Hero Ability: Once per turn you may make a ranged attack without consuming ammo. If using the Crossbow Weapon of Choice your ammo cards count for double their capacity. (assuming you use ammo cards for certain weapons) Crossbow Pregame Weapon of Choice If your Hero is Darryl Dixon this card does not take up a pregame slot. Your ranged attacks that are not Head Shots do 1 less damage (to a minimum of 1). You do not need to exert to make a Head Shot. Abandoned Prison Location-Generic-2 While occupying the Prison your opponent may not play any card that removes this location. Your Gathering/Scouting cards may not be countered. Undamaged Store Situation-Gathering-2 When this card is played you may search your Endurance for up to 2 food items or 1 non unique weapon and add it to your hand. Remove this card from the game during your next sweep phase. Secluded Woods Situation-Scouting-3 When this card enters play you may search the top 5 cards of your Endurance. Take any food items or any one card with Makeshift Weapon in the title into your hand. If your Hero/Villain has the Tracker keyword search the top 10 cards instead. It may not be a popular concept but I was thinking of a 2 deck system. Hero and Walker/Villain (Governor, Negan etc) and play 1 game with each deck per round, using a secondary points system in case of a tie. Just a thought, I know the license wouldn't be cheap. Please no flaming the messenger. I would have suggested a Game of Thrones Swordmaster-type game, but someone beat me to it about 10 years ago.

Netrunner, Star Wars, and a few other games use the 2 deck system. It works for those games.

I was really never thrilled with building 2 decks for 1 event, but I'm concerned that combining the 2 with a '30-30' build would be ineffective. I was thinking of, for the points tiebreaker, using locations that were part of a region and controlling each might award points, or when a location is played and it's effect applied it was removed from game and 'scored' being worth a certain amount of points. I'm probably putting a lot of thought into something that will never happen but I love the Swordmaster system and Walking Dead and I think it would be a great fit. By the way: Rick Grimes Pregame-Hero-Lawman H-8 A-6 Str-7 Sta-9 E-10 R-6 If Carl Grimes is in play your attacks do +1 damage. If (the baby, can't remember the name)Grimes is in play your defenses cover 1 additional grid. Custom .44 Magnum Pregame-Weapon of Choice If your hero is Rick Grimes this weapon does +1 damage. If you kill a human you must discard 1 card from your Scored pile during your May Do Must Do step. Reduce the size of a Hard Exertion you make for a Head Shot by 2. Carl Grimes Unique-Ally-Rick If Carl suffers fatal damage you lose 1/2 your Ability (round down). Add 1 additional non-Upper grid to an attack you play. Sheriff's Hat Unique-Item Attached ally has +1 health. If attached ally is Carl Grimes blank the effect triggered by his death. If attached to Beth Greene she gains 'once per game avoid all damage from 1 walker or Villain.' JSS Pregame Just Survive Somehow Remove this card from the game to search your Endurance for 1 Signature (Hilt effect) Holster and put it into play. If you have no pregame WoC you may search for a location or ally instead. Your opponent may search for 1 walker and put it into play. I guess I shouldn't binge watch Walking Dead before posting.
