Hi
I am a sucker for CCGs and the other day I picked up some cards cheaply for a long OOP game called Gridiron which as the name suggests is about (American) Football. I had played NFL showdown a bit in the past and didn't think much of it so wasn't expecting much from Gridiron at all. However now I have played it I really liked it ... some fun cards.. some nice strategy ...and an enjoyable game. I just wondered if any of you guys had played it, had any hints and tips for card play or had any cards to trade etc.
Best

Yeah I played/collected waaaay back in the day. Some friends wanted to do a league but another football game, Red Zone, came out with actual NFL players on the cards so we went with that. I remember having some of the star players but no clue where in my card room, yes I have a card room, they are. BTW The Showdown game sucked. The cheap-ass card reader never worked right.

Oh gosh Red zone I had forgotten that. I bought a couple of starters back in the day (I remember they were really expensive)and got a Dan Marino which was one of the most sought after cards in the set. It normally takes me ages to pull the best cards so I was really chuffed. Game was Ok but nothing great. The card reader for NFL showdown 2003 was much better than 2002 but by then everybody had given up on it and it died. You are right the game was pretty poor anyway.
A friend and I are playing old CCGs - he used to have a shop and has odd starters so we are trying them out. Some are awful and you can see why they died but there are a couple of gems in there that you think could have survived. Gridiron is the one I have enjoyed the most so I picked up some more really cheap to try and construct something so if you have time to have a look for your old gridiron cards I would be grateful.
Best as always

I remember we had a Draft Day and everything for our Red Zone league. Marino was a free 5 yard penalty against your opponent and you could use any number of them. Really poorly thought out game, but the baseball version of Showdown was pretty sweet. We ran leagues a couple of seasons. I'll probably need a couple days to find everything, but I'll look for them. Does your friend have any James Bond 007 CCG cards? Game came out mid 90's and tanked, but some of the foils I'd like to have. Any Babylon 5 CCG promos? I'd be happy to trade for anything you might have, or failing that send me a box or FedEx label and I'll mail the Gridiron cards to you. I'll email you pics of the foils I have (once I find them ). It might hit home a little better, but have you seen the recent Panini Cards FIFA football card game? I'm not sure but there are probably a few Manchester United players in the set. It sold here a few years back because of Beckham being on the LA Galaxy.

Oh wow that is really kind of you Geoff. I must give you something for them tho'. I will ask him if he has any 007 cards. He put all of his old stock into his garage and is SLOWLY sorting them out. In terms of babylon 5 promos which ones are you looking for?. We played a bit and have a few promos but I think they were the common promos.
The English football game that we played was football champions which was surprisingly good. All teams in the premier league were represented and we ran a few tourneys which was fun.
I will ask Mark , my friend tonight about the 007 cards

Ok, found them. Wasn't that hard a search after all. I assume the rarity symbol (the little helmet in bottom right corner) is color coded. Some cards have silver foil icons and some gold/bronze-ish. A bunch of what I found were sleeved so I'm guessing those are the rares. And I found 5 foils. Star Ancestor Rally Wrong Way Liquid Heat x2
It looked like a fun game, even though I haven't taken the cards out in years. Looks like about 30 or so rares, and several star players. Maybe 400+ or so cards.
As far as Bab 5 promos I have: Zog! Tip-Top Shape Rogue Telepath Flarn Taree The Dreaming Return to Ideals Bombing Run Dodger Brevari! Defector Revealed Monitored Deal Destroy the Opposition The Just Suffer Destined to Be (my only tournament win) Asimov Laws Doctor Franklin Credit Chip Cultural Connections Past Victories Return to Ideals Zathra's Solo Flight The Third Age I'd really like another Destined to Be, however it's not a cheap card even after all this time and Gridiron isn't a big cash item.
On a sad note I read that Michael O'Hare (Capt Sinclair) died a year or so ago. He was barely 60. Anyway let me know what you think.

Hi Geoff
I have a sent you an email
I think I read that Michael O'Hare suffered very badly with depression and that was the reason he left the show. Many of the actors from the show have sadly passed away..such a shame
