Dirty Trick: Head Butt - "If this attack is successful, you may discard any number of cards from your hand. At the end of his Defense Phase, your opponent must discard from the top of his Endurance the same number of cards that you discarded to your discard pile."
Nefertiri persona - "When you discard from your Hand, you may place some or all of those cards on top of your Endurance."
The rules question is... can Nefertiri discard the cards to the top of her Endurance when the Head Butt is successful?

I don't see why she couldn't, but the Headbutt specifies that the cards have to hit the discard pile to count for the effect.

Because the card does specify "the Discard Pile", you can only count the cards that actually go into the Discard Pile. Since the card also specifies that you may discard any number of cards from your Hand, you could put some in Discard and some on top of your Endurance, emptying your Hand if you so choose.

So basically... it doesn't really work ;p In the words of Obi Wan Kenobi - From a certain point of view If you WANT to be able to empty your Hand, but be able to draw back up some of those cards next turn, PLUS have an added bonus of making your opponent have to discard from their Endurance, then this is a good card.

Bah, that Obi-wan line was bull when I saw the movie in the 80's and it still is now :/ If you WANT to put that many cards in you DISCARD pile, then build a better Nef deck It's a shame that her persona ability doesn't get FULL use out of this card. Oh well.

I suppose you could discard to discard pile cards clogging your hand, and put Illusions back on top, then exert to screw with your opponent. Not a game breaker but not too bad. If your opponent is near exausting and no Nexus on table, its a free 5 ability loss.

Well, being an avid fan of playing Nef in Type One, the thing to remember is she is very powerful, which is why her ability changed for her 2nd ed version. With her power in mind and considering the time frame that the card was made, it had that text specifically slated to hold her back from being the totally dominate force like what happened with Xavier and Slan. When I read this, it reminded me of my Nef deck that I threw at Jeff Timi a few years back at the first Recruits. I opted to use Zach Blaine's Master Thief instead since it didn't have the "if successful" tag on it. Once the Design Team saw it, it was signatured after that weekend since it was majorly unbalanced for the Type One format. Unfortunately, we have to fix the broken combos to level the playing field amongst every player and to make it possible to have a shot at winning with any persona instead of seeing the same 4 or 5 every time, which everyone hated back in the 90s. Hope that helps.
