Zombie Joe is back and posting... I really should look at switching my forum name here to Zombie Joe... We had a few weeks of non-sanctioning events through the holidays, but we are back and running events. I am even posting about them again! Seriously though, we are doing Tuesday night events at Misty Mountain Games in Madison, WI. This week was a single starter and drafting from two boosters from Search for Vengeance. Thomas (I think playing Octavius) Josh (I think playing Colin) Van (playing Kayla) Zombie Joe (playing Kayla) Thomas went 2-1 for the night, using around 6 dodges and 5 "master swordsman" cards in his deck. In our game he had me down to 1 ability to his 7 when I took his head. (More on that later) Josh went 1-2 for the night, managing to take down Van, but losing his head to the Zombie and simply losing to the German kid (as Frank calls him). Van went 0-3 for the night. He carried a few dodges, but the cards were definitely not flopping in his favor. Zombie Joe took 3 heads for the night. I won all games by head shot due to having the Head Shot from the starter, and drafting 2 Master Head Shot from the boosters (one may have come in the starter -- not sure). Pair that up with around 2 or 3 "master swordsman" cards, and that is all she wrote. Next week is a toss up (depending on when Thomas gets back from Boston that day. We will likely play constructed... or possibly Lean & Mean...

Woah! your telling me that between a starter and 2 boosters you managed to draft 6 Dodges and 5 Master Swordsmans as well 2 Master Head Shots . . . seriously?
That sounds a little far fetched . . . unless your talking about the "display card" as a Master Swordsman, then still, drafting 5 of them and 6 dodges seems . . . well out there.
Congrats none the less. Cat

In a sealed event we did here in Springfield a few months ago, I had 10 or 11 dodges of various types. I won my way across the winner's bracket, but lost my head at the end of the first game of finals. All that green, and none of 'em showed up in my exertion to keep my head on... unless your talking about the "display card" as a Master Swordsman Display card? I think he is referring to the checklist card.

Actually I had the 2 Master Head Shots... I only drew a single dodge and 2 checklist "master swordsman" cards (thus me instructing my rugged knish hands to make the air quotes). Thomas drew 5 "master swordsman" cards (of the 8 total) and a couple dodges. I think I mis-remembered him getting 5 or 6 dodges. Van drew 5 dodges. Seem a little more plausible now?

Nobody seemed to want the "Master Swordsman" Cards. After the boosters went around three times or so they were still in the packs. So I took them.
And they really made the difference in the two games I won. Looking for the weak spot in the defense and then a power blow onto that grid every turn worked well.
It also worked well against Joe. I brought him from 9 to 1 ability in two turns. And then came the headshot from Joe I had no defense against, despite having 18 defenses in a 50-card deck. The german kid still hates Joe for that.

I actually had Octavius and Thomas had Colin. In any event, I enjoyed that I drafted enough cards to put together a constructed legal deck off what I drafted.
It would be under powered in constructed, but I thought it was fun to forsake two dodges in the name constructed format legality.

The question is if those two dodges would have helped you keep your head.

They may have only changed the outcome of the round against you. Thomas beat me handly and Van well it only took three turns to get Van.
I was really neutral about this set but now seeing the cards and playing with them I like it. Just not sure which/if any of the immortals from the set I would to try building.

Yeah, I meant the Checklist . . . In a Pack Rat format with 3 boosters I had 7 dodges that was the best, needless to say I won that event, regardless, I've seen people win fast in that type event due to lack of blocks/dodges or they get cards that are just ridiculous in this type of event.
Still, cool and enjoy! Cat

Malick is very effective in this type of tournament. Forcing your oponent to make an Exertion every turn you exert is a real deck burner.
