Action! Suspence! Heartbreak!
For those who are not of the faint of heart, proceed, but be forwarned!!!
We start up the tournament in our own format called "Back to Basics." We are only allowed a persona and sword (or two in case of the Wakazashi or the Sheild). Thats it. No Gatherings, no +1's, nothing. Bare bones. Back to Basics.
I thought I had grabbed The Kurgan, but apparently I left him at home, so I went with Grayson. The closest thing to not relying on my pre-games. We had 7 people total. Let me see if I can remember them:
Me (Grayson)
Cat (Grayson)
Chris (Nef)
Carlos (Connor)
Ryan (Duncan)
Brian (Kastigir)
Jon (Richie)
So lets go into round 1
Cat playing Grayson
This was a beatdown, drag out, smash mouth, ping war. We actually finish before everyone else, but we just beat on each other with pistols, Expert Thrusts, Stabs, and just punching through any damage we could. I got the Risk Managments online pretty quick, while with Cat it took a couple turns to get them up and running. We poke and prod at each other until we have both exhausted a couple times. It came down to us exerting for attacks at each others. I was able to exert and grab a Stab out and stab him for the last point. The final score was 1-0 at the end.
ACTION!
1-0 +1
Round 2:
Chris playing Nef
Okay. This sucked. His first turn was The Dark Room. The second turn was a hidden stabbing power blow....with a Charm. 4 damage. Next turn, same thing. 4 more damage. Just more suck on top of suck. He is in full control of this game. I get a couple Risk Managements online. He is milling cards, I finally start getting some attacks off...Expert Thrusts, Pistols, etc....he is down to about 4 cards let in his deck, I ask to look through his discard. In there I find 6 dodges, and every upper block. I throw out a Upper Left Head Shot...he mumbles that it's the only grid he doesn't have covered. He exerts for a defense....1....2...3...4...nothing. Thook!
SUSPENCE!
2-0 +3
Round 3
Brian playing Kastigir
This was going alright and I was in control for a while. I had the Kris to back me up in case there was some insane standing defenses going on...then it happened. He Disarmed me. I felt fine though. I had a few dodges and a truck load of so I was okay...right?
...wrong.
5 turns in a row I hard exert to get my weapon back. Every time there was 1 yellow...and nothing else. I gave up on the spot after the 5th exertion.
HEARTBREAK!
2-1 +3
So Brian took his first tournament, congradulations! I took a respectable 2nd place. This is how the standings panned out:
1. Brian
2. Me
3. Ryan
4. Chris
5. Cat
6. Carlos
7. Jon
...I'm a litte sketchey on 5th-7th, so I'm sorry if I got those mixed up.
Anyways, Back to Basics is WAAAAAY fun. Everyone should try it. Play it in a swiss tournament. Watch your head explode.
ba-boom. Thook.
