Hey everyone,
So after a long day of work and disc golf (look it up) the day finally ended with a hearty Highlander constructed tournament. all together we had 7 people show up and we started around 6 o'clock. I decided to play my Annie Devlin hunter deck. Pretty much the set up is Annie, Rapier, James Horton, Kurgan +1 damage quickening, The Gathering (get a plot), The Prize (Shuffle the hand in) and a Crystal subbing in a Middle Right Attack for a Master Attack. I get the Hunter prone out first turn then start throwing out 3 attacks per turn (One for my own attack, one for Annie and one for the Rapier) then start throwing out 3 damage Hunters. Dueling Grounds, Extra Attacks, Counters and Freedom Fighters add more attacks. Pistols push through some cheap attack damage and Irish Freedom Fighters make it sting a little more. Lets just jump right in then:
Round 1:
Carlos playing Anthony Gallen
Everyone around us was moaning about getting bad draws and so on. Both Carlos and myself got some pretty good draws. I got him prone with the Hunter, he got me prone with a tackle. I ended up hitting a Master of the Cause to get back up on my feet and then went to town. Pistols, Slices, Master Attacks, direct damage and being prone was just too much to handle.
Win 1-0 +1
Round 2:
Jon playing Duncan
I actually was a little worried about this, I knew he had a bunch of strange dodges and stuff to get around the pistols. I was also a little scared of a Master Block, Master Head Shot, because a lucky head shot might get through. Luckily enough (I guess) was he mostly got defenses on the first couple of turns and a Clan Priest to get around a early Hunter 3 damage. Soon enough though, I started throwing out 4 attacks a turn and it started to get to him. He started eating damage, then exhausted then time was called and it was a coast to a win from there.
Win 2-0 +2
Round 3:
Jeff (Lex) playing Slan
I don't know if this is the new posh thing to do, but a buddy of mine has been playing this type of deck and now Jeff is playing almost the same type of deck. He plays Slan with the Katana, plays Master of the Katana so I cannot Power Block and then throws out free power blows with Lunges. Because my buddy has been playing this same deck, I knew what was happening, so I had a game plan. I made sure the Hunter prone stuck and then just started throwing a lot of pistols and damage cards. I would focus the Master of the Katana and make easy power blocks and soon enough, since he was using a smaller deck he exhausted and that was game.
Win 3-0 +3
Here is the final standings:
1. Wilson (me) (Annie) 3-0 +3
2. Jeff (Slan) 2-1 +4
3. Carlos (Gallen) 2-1 +2
4. Tony (Slan) 2-1 +1
5. Jon (Duncan) 1-2 +1
6. Cat (Fasil) 1-2 +1
7. Chris (Rameriez) 1-2 +-0
I have to applaude everyone at tournament for playing really cool original decks. Way to go guys. I ended up pulling a Annie Quickening but I was able to talk my way into talking the store manager to switch out the quickening for the Anthony Gallen quickening for my Kurgan Bloodlust deck.
Thanks for reading guys!
