I was going to put this in the rulebook (and still might), but I thought I would make it first as an announcement so everyone notices it.
This was passed on to HWR and myself from Mike and the other members of the Design Team when we were assigned to the rulebooks.
It is the desire of Mike and the Design Team that 1ed cards (as much as possible) are playable as they are printed, so that people who come to a tournament with cards, having never read this forum, can play the deck they made with little or no fuss. Here is the proposal :
If you are a tournament director and a new player comes to an event with a deck, and you find out it is "illegal", you are encouraged to let them play the deck as is, but inform them of the rules (maybe provide them with a copy of the Type One Rulebook) and the forums so that they can become better educated for the next time they play.
When I say "illegal", I do not mean outright breaking of the rules. Most likely if they made a deck, it was using the rules printed in the old starter decks, or maybe they played in the old days and its built to rules used at that time. This means most likely it WILL be basically a legal deck, with the only "illegal" cards being ones that have been errata'd. This is a BIG reason why the card errata has been shrunk down to only the cards that ABSOLUTELY need it, so that players like in this example will have very little to worry about.
This is all a suggestion, in the spirit of promoting the game we all love. We are sure that tournament directors already make these concessions for new people, but having it in writing also helps upcoming tournament directors and helps establish a groundwork. Obviously indivigual tournament directors are left to thier own discretion when it comes to this policy, policing thier own areas so that unscupulous players dont attempt to take advantage of this "good will policy".
Thank you for your attention.
