Greetings and welcome to yet another fun filled event of Highlander...
This week we're doing a sealed Pack Rat event, something that happens every other week apparently and hopefully a little more, I personally find that event a lot more fun.
So we're still running a few people short for a myriad of reasons but we had 6, one of which was from LA about 100 miles south of where we are, so it was great to see a new face - online here, he's Lex, so thanks Lex for coming to the tournament and of course thanks for the trade.
So, the people that showed were:
Chris - Yung Dol Kim
Lex - Sunda Kastigar
Wilson - Sunda Kastigar
Jon - Sunda Kastigar
Me - Sunda Kastigar
Carlos - The Kurgan
As you can see a lot of Kastigars made their debut, and personally I think he's one of the weaker persona's in this format, but a persona is a persona and that's better than nothing.
I also got a pre-game James Horton, but no Hunter cards to go with him, actually no one got any other pre-game cards except for me, and I got a SHIELD, but I couldn't use that because I didn't have a second pre-game card, such is life.
So with the tournament called, and everyone ready to play everyone paired off we start
Game 1 vs. Chris
This game was pretty meh, the entire time, we both had attacks, we both had dodges, we both had plots and other special cards to play, it basically came down to endurance, fortunately neither of us hit the head shot win, even though I did try it as my last ditch effort with Connor Slash UL-UC-UR with a head shot, Chris had the defense in his hand for it, but at least I attempted it.
Good game to Chris, as always we have a lot of fun playing regardless of whatever we're doing.
0 - 1
Game 2 vs. Lex
This was a tougher game for Lex, I hit the Kurgans Helm and that pretty much neutered a lot of his attacks, he had to discard an attack to play one, ironically he almost played the ruins as his first card which meant he would've had to discard 2 attacks to play one, he was happy that he didn't, which immediately became his next discard to draw card.
It was good to play a new guy, I'm glad he showed up, he was enjoying the game as well and I think he had fun, he said he'll be back, not every week but he will come back.
The game ended in time with the 1 damage per every turn, I won because I got in a lucky 2 point to take him below me and it ended with me winning with 1 endurance left.
1 - 1
Game 3 vs. Carlos
This is the first time that I've played in a tournament where I didn't have to play my roomate, thank god. So I play Carlos, he just finished playing Wilson who had a Parking Garage/Disarm combo, I have that same combo.
Carlos did his first attack, I took the 1 damage from the attack, I forget what it was, but it only did 1 and I attempted the Connor Slash / Head Shot early on, it failed of course and the game went back and forth.
The highlight of the game was playing the Disarm, hitting it, then next turn I played the Location where all attacks can be hidden, I hit a couple of hidden power blows, he got his weapon back, attacked me hidden, I played the Alertness - reveal hidden, saw his attack, blocked normally and then played the Parking Garage, I didn't want him hitting me with hidden attacks anymore
Other than that, we got through the end game again, I won this one because I had more endurance due to the 2 hidden power blows that did their damage and him exhausting through his deck faster because of trying to get his weapon back.
I felt bad because he just fought the same type of deck that I had, but that's the life of highlander.
2 - 1
So I took some place in the tournament, I didn't find out what it was, however I did hear that Lex took Jon's head in the end of the round because Jon had the best luck in the world - 9 basic blocks, 3 dodges and 1 other defense . . . did I mention Jons luck for sealed is terrible - sorry Jon.
Regardless, another great event and tournament and congratulations to Wilson for winning it and the Duncan Ally Quickening.
Thanks,
Cat
