Greetings and welcome to another tournament in Santa Barbara, unfortunately this one only had 4 players Carlos had to watch his football game, Brian had a date ( I think it's the first in a while, not sure ), My buddy Jason was unavailable ( I forgot to call him ), Wilson's friend was . . . somewhere else, however we did have a new guy show from LA but he didn't stay, I guess he went off somewhere, but I hope he returns.
Regardless, this was our first tournament with anything goes, however, if you loose your head due to a head shot and you were using a Quickening, you weren't out of the tournament, instead your Quickening went to your opponent, but you got it back at the end of the tournament. Yes, I know they normally should have been able to keep it, but we're not that ruthless.
So with that being said, I decided to play my 1 trick pony Connor deck. Essentially it uses his hilt, Master's Block, Lunge: Katana and Connor Slash = makes it an unblockable, only dodgeable from exertion head shot.
Jon and I head over to the tournament to find Chris and Wilson already there, we're waiting for the other guy while I open a new box of Season 2 Expansion because I want to play Rebecca Horne - which I'm sad to say some of the packs we're shorted and without rares. Also, I never got her persona ( thats 2 boxes of this set and no Rebecca persona, plenty of Luthors though )
So we start the tournament and the following players are:
Wilson: Kurgan - both Annie Q's and Katana's Q
Chris: Rameriz - no Qs
Jon: Mako - Extra Attack Q
Cat: Connor - Exhaust only 3 Q
Round 1: Wilson
Back and forth and back and forth we went . . . until he finally got the Catwalk out that's what really hosed me this game, seeing as how I have nothing in my deck to take care of those specific cards, like I said Lean & Mean with Allies for exertions and Head Shots, but against Wilson whose exertions couldn't be modified it became moot, however he did kidnap my Rachel ( picture coming soon )
What it all came down to was Wilson wanting my Q and on the final attack, after the Catwalk was in play he attacked with his Master's Head Shot and I exerted and - if anyone plays Texas Hold 'em then they'll know this - on the river I flip Connor's Master Block thus eluding the head shot and running with my tail between my legs.
0 - 1
Round 2: Jon
We just played this game earlier before we left for the tournament, however Jon was definately kicking my arse, however, in the tournament it was the other way around. Unfortunately for Jon, he has the WORST luck in the world, I always think that it's just god slapping him around for being like he is, but seriously I think it's the devil playing a cruel trick on him.
Regardless, it was a quicker game than at home, I hit the lucky draw with him having a majority of his dodges in hand, since he has only so many in the deck, hit the combo described above and took his head, however, I already had 6 spots for pre-game, so he just put it away.
1 - 1
Game 3: Chris
This game was fun up until the one trick pony didn't work anymore, he took both of my hilts for those Stupid Rameriz earings, and their worthless if you ask me, I think their fake pearls. Regardless, we went back and forth and finally after my one trick pony died, it sort of ended, Chris just kept attacking and I was saving my upper center block and Master's Block to stave off the head shot because I had to discard dodges to play dodges against him.
Stupid Ramierz, great actor, terrible character - just kidding. Congrats to Chris as well for winning.
1 - 2
Oops, Chris, hehe - that means you took second not me . . . I owe you a rare - talk to me later.
Standings:
Wilson
Chris
Cat
Jon
And thus ended another week of tournament playing, the biggest downside is not getting the prize support and the second biggest was not getting the full allotment of rares in the box. The same thing happened to Jon in his Season 2 box, the first pack we cracked had only 6 cards, all common . . . I mean c'mon all common. And several didn't even have rares in them.
If there's anything we can do to get some replacements that'd be awesome. All in all it was a great tournament and we had a lot of fun, even though only 4 of us showed.
Next week is a Sealed Deck Pack Rat tournament - these are the most fun, once we get enough people to have enough personas & persona specific cards we'll be doing a Pack Rat constructed event.
Have a great day!
Don't lose your head!
