Greetings and welcome again . . .
This is another event that we played this one would've had 8 people but 1 called in that they had to work and the other isn't ready for a tournament running - actually it would've been 9 but the other guy couldn't make it.
Regardless, our tournament scene is starting to grow. However, with this type of tournament it all really comes down to the best cards, the most defenses you can pull and any type of trick that you might have.
My trick was a Grayson card that made my opponent discard a defense to play a defense from his hand and then I coupled that with Xaviers Master's Tactician so they were dumping 2 at a time.
Of course having Duncan's Master Headshot too but I never go to take a head, only winning via running away ( endurance loss )
I pulled a General Katana character card and a Grayson character card, I opted for Grayson, because of his ability so it was moot - also I pulled a Kris, but with the Headshot and a couple of other multiple gridded attacks I didn't use it.
The saddest thing I pulled a Toadies which was really cool, however it had a Short Sword back so I couldn't use it because of the obvious different backing sad panda!
So on to the tournaments:
Round 1 vs. Carlos ( using Xavier w/Katana )
It was uber cheese against him I hit the nuts draw and got out the Season 1 plots to make him dump his hand for 15, then hit the Grayson/Xavier combo so he was milling through his deck at a rather fast pace. I don't remember much else unfortunately I did win because time was called and we were pinging each other, but I had a lot more life in the end it ended up being something along the lines of 11 to 0 - then for the rest of the tournament it was us smack talking about jank cheese mainly my deck.
1 - 0
Game 2 vs Chris ( using Ramirez w/Single Broad Sword )
This game sucked - have I ever mention how bad it is to be prone while not knowing whats in your deck for eggs to tell what your building or using. It was a pain.
I did however manage to get him under double digits but not before he got me to zero. Congrats to Chris for winning but being PRONE in sealed SUCKS!! and to cap it all off, I had an Up and At 'Em, I used it, then he played another card that made me prone. - sigh - at least I didn't loose my head.
1 - 1
Game 3 vs. Jon ( using Hugh w/Rapier )
Jon has the absolute worst luck ever - he only had the basic 9 attacks and maybe 4 or 5 more other attacks, however, he did have every dodge and or block you could want in the game at least that's the way it seemed. It was back and forth, I'd attack he'd defend, he'd attack I'd defend - ect ect.
However, the highlight was when he got a good hit on me, took me down to 9, then I exhausted to 6 ( Grayson's ability ) and at this time I got him exhausted and brought him down to 6 as well, on the next turn after exhaustion, I played the Watcher Gain 2 ability and brought me back up above him when the timer went off.
So I won because of that, and I attempted a dual head-shot, Duncans Master first he dodged, had no hand, I played another head shot from my hand and exerted for an upper attack, which was the 47th card down so I wasn't about to get it.
Still it was a fun game - did I mention Swiss is the way to go ( cheeky )
2 - 1
Also, I was listening to Chris & Wilson's final game, Chris won, I think it was a head shot, but Wilson ended up Prone and Disarmed - man that really sucks - did I mention that being Prone sucks in this format - if I not I will mention it - BEING PRONE SUCKS!!!
Ah well another tournament, the prizes didn't make it on time, so Chris will get his quickening on Monday when they arrive as well the rest of the players. Next weeks tournament is good ole fashion swiss style and we aren't limited by our Quickenings or other cards, everyone has had a chance to hit eBay or talk here to buy cards so people now have them.
We're opting for an interesting rule, those that are using their Quickening, don't loose them, however, if you loose your head your opponent get's your quickening for the remainder of the tournament to use . . . we don't believe in loosing your head you loose your Quickening - I know before you say anything that's the point, but since their hard to come by for us, we like to make sure that we get them back. And yes in a real tournament if that's what would happen, I know for fact that I wouldn't use any Quickening because I wouldn't want to loose them for good . . . I'm greedy that way
Okay that's that, I'll post a tournament report for the next week for the next tournament - enjoy reading.
Thanks,
Cat
