My local playgroup has recently been revising their house rules to reflect the changes that LM has made in the traditional 1E rules and to convert some otherwise unusable 2E cards. I thought I would post them up hear to see if any of you might have further suggestions or ideas.
Thanks
Highlander House Rules.
Block And Strike: Is considered a Block while it is your hand. (LM considers it both.)
Crystals: Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Terpsichore are all considered to read. “This card does not count toward your Pre-Game deck construction limit. During deck Construction, you may substitute one Basic Attack with any other Non-Special Attack or one Basic Block with any other defense. You may only use one crystal of the same name in your deck at a time.” 1st and 2E Pre-game Crystals are both considered legal. (2E Crystals are Bugged)
English Long Sword: Is considered to read, "You may ignore the text on any Dodge covering 9 grids that you play. You may not include Dodges that cover less than 9 grids in your Deck.”
Hunter Cards: You are NOT required to have a Pre-game Hunter in play to play Watcher cards of either Ed. (2E currently requires a pre-game to play. This will likely carry over to 1E soon.)
MCBC: MCBC (Masters Cannot Be Countered cards) are banned. If you are playing a 2E persona with his Premium Pre-Game, You are to ignore the MCBC portion of the card. (They are obviously legal in both TC and LM rules.)
Master Swordsman: Is NOT considered a block, or an attack while it is in your hand. (LM now considers it both a block and attack.)
Monkey: Is BANNED. (There has never been a balanced version of Monkey so it's banned.)
Personas: Any persona that DOES NOT use specifically 2E mechanics is to be considered legal. Example: The Duncan MacLeod Persona reads, "You may discard one Gem to play a Basic Block against an attack that cannot be blocked. For Every Ally you have in play, you may increase or decrease the size of a Hard Exertion you make by one (you must announce the size before performing the exertion)." Since we have no Gems in type 1, Duncan’s 2E Persona is Illegal. This leaves a LOT more playable personas than are currently legal under LM rules.
Plot: Plot cards have the word Plot in the Group Line, usually Situation: Plot or Event: Plot. Plots often require that you play several cards before they have an effect on the
game. (LM has ruled that Plots are now their own card type and are no longer affected by cards that remove situations. This requires players to pack yet another tool box card. So, we’re just going to ignore this ruling in type 1.)
Prone: During the game, you may become Prone. If you are Prone, you must discard a card from your hand with the same Icon type as any card you play. If you are Prone, during each of your 'May Do' phases you have a 1 in 6 chance of 'regaining your feet'. You may increase this chance to 3 in 6 by making an Exertion before making the roll. You MUST discard a card to play a card EVEN if that card is played from an exertion. (LM does not require you to discard a card to play a card from an Exertion.)
Quickenings: Quickenings may not be played with a Named Persona. A player playing a Generic Persona may include ONE Quickening in his Pre-Game slots. (You may play as many as you have open Pre-Game slots in both TC and LM rules)
Removing Situations from play: If a situation is countered as it is played, it has NO effect on play. (This is a reversal of the original TC rule were it would have it's immediate effect and then be removed from play.)
Sinuous Blade: Is considered to read "You may only include this card in your deck if you are using the Kris Weapon of Choice. Whenever your opponent makes an Exertion, they must Discard the top card of their Endurance prior to making the Exertion."
Shooting Blade: May be used without a free hand if you are using a 2H WoC. It may not be used without a freehand if you are using 2 different WoC. (The hand requirements vary by edition. 2E allows you to fire it with out a free hand under any circumstances. 1E never allows you to fire it with out a free hand unless you have a Slan specific card that makes it possible.)
Watcher Cards: You are NOT required to have a Pre-game Watcher in play to play watcher cards of either Ed. (2E currently requires a pre-game to play. This will likely carry over to 1E soon.)
You Have Already Lost: If you successfully play You Have Already Lost and your opponent is using a Pre-Game WoC, You are now considered to be using your opponents WoC and must fulfill any of its cost or requirements. If their WoC is different than yours any Weapon Specific cards you have will be unplayable until you reclaim your own weapon. (LM, TC rules simply have you disarmed them and you continue to use your own weapon of choice.)
