Old 1ed Playtest Weapons And Thier Cards Revealed

Heya!

I have been given the greenlight to post the cards I have, so here goes:

Scythe:
You may make any Middle and Thrust attacks Power Blows with a 0-card Exertion. When blocking an attack that covers the Middle Center, you must discard the top 5 cards of your Endurance.

Play in conjunction with a Basic Attack. If the attack is successfull, it does no damage and you may choose an Object your opponent has in play. Your opponent must discard that Object.

Mace:
You may draw a card for each attack you play after playing that attack. You must discard a card from your hand for each Defense you play after playing that Defense. You may not make Head Shots.

Play in conjunction with Disarm. If you successfully Disarm your opponent, his weapon is considered to be broken.

Stunning Blow

If your opponent blocks a Thrust, then he must make an Exertion at the end of his Defense Phase. You must Exert to make a Head Shot, and must always Exert at least 3 cards to make a Power Block.

Play during your Defense Phase. You may play one attack this turn as a Block, disregarding any text on the attack. You may not block a Power Blow with the attack played.

Scythe doesn't do a whole lot for me, but Mace and Sword Cane sure look fun.

Mace + Parrying Blade = Poor Man's Nef Q.

I can see how Mace would be insane with Kalas, especially if Bludgeon is a standard attack so you can play Stunning Blow with it.

Yeah, Bludgeon was a Red Grid attack.

I can definitely see how the mace got broke quick. I like some of the ideas they have on the cards themselves though. Was the Scythe Cleave a Special Attack?

Scythe Cleaves were yellow grid, If I recall correctly.......wait I think I might be confusing it with a different weapon.

You are confusing it with something else. The card does NOT show Cleave to be a Gold Grid, which is what helped make it so ugly.

The mace would be a fun attack weapon to use. I would not have much use for the scythe.

Aagh a 3 grid 0 card exertion power blow! Ludicrous....unless those cleaves do not count as middle attacks. However I think the would cause they cover middle grids and unless they say otherwise they could be headshots, which is just crazy.

I think I was confusing Scythe Cleaves for the Claymore ones......which are yellow grid, aren't they?

Yes, Claymore cleaves are yellow.

Ah, yes, those crazy EARLY days of Highlander.

Honestly, I cant remember if these cards were before or after the "upper case rule" was put into effect. Also, text wasnt always present or consistant in playtest cards, which is why things would sometimes change dramatically over the course of the test. I know when it was first tested, I saw several successfull Head Shots from Cleaves.

I can imagine the shock on someone's face when they saw the Cleave+headshot for the first time. Whats the "upper case rule" by the way?

On a related note, the slash for the Sword Cane states when your opponent successfully BLOCKS, not defends correct?

The "Upper Case Rule" is what allows certain cards to be used in certain ways. For instance-

Upper Left Attack - this is the actual card, Upper Left Attack
upper left Attack - this is any attack that has the upper left grid covered
Middle Attack - this is either the Middle Left or Middle Right attack cards
middle Attack - this would be any attack that covers a middle grid

Do you see the difference? This specification was not always in the rules, but as more attacks were made, the need for this distinction became apparant.

The Scythe has to use it. Or at least, if it doesn't there's no point in putting "Middle and Thrust," since Thrust is already a middle attack.
