Heya!
According the the Handbook- Shooting Blade [SE] - OOO/OSO/OOO - R1 - Slan - SPECIAL ATTACK: RANGED This Attack does 4 damage.
Ranged Attack - Ranged Attacks are Special Attacks with the Group Line RANGED. Back Away will not avoid Ranged Attacks. You must have a "free hand" (1 Hand Icon in play or less) to be able to play a Ranged Attack. Example: Slan Quince is using the War Axe. He wants to play Shooting Blade, but he cannot since he has 2 Hand Icons in play due to War Axe, and does not have a "free hand". ----------------------------------------- It looks like you are gonna have to use "The Brute" if Slan has a 2 handed weapon.

It's the same as all other ranged attacks.

I was not sure if that had made it into the handbook or not. I know that is why they made "The Brute" but was hoping maybe they changed it.

Nope, they never changed it. Apparently 2e ranged attacks will have hand icons if they need free hands, letting Slan use his Shooting Blade with a Great Sword, but the current rulebook still requires a free hand.

James, where does it state that, in the handbbok or the addendum? Last I knew the hand icon only reffered to the pistols, musket, and shooting blade. Headswillroll

For 2e? Currently the rulebook says "Though Ranged Attacks do not have Hand Icons on them, the rules for Ranged Attacks require that you have a "Free Hand" to play them," but either Tim of Greg said that would change in the new rulebook and only ranged attacks with hand icons would require a free hand.
For 1e? The rulebook for 1e says "Ranged Attacks: You must have a free hand to play a Ranged Attack (see Hand Icons). Ranged Attacks cannot be blocked under any circumstances and are also Special Attacks."

Thanks, I was so busy looking through the handbook and the addendum that the rulebook just seemed redundant. Live and Learn. Headswillroll

It happens a lot actually. Towards the end there were so many rules entries in the Handbook, some of whom either contradicted or came close to contradicting the rulebook that the Handbook and Addendum were the first places I looked if I had a question.

I have a question on Cassandra's Enchanted Voice-Situation. It states you must discard a special card for each Enchanted Voice in play. If my opponent has 4 of them in play, I have to discard 4 special cards. If I do not have any special cards in my hand and I play Patience to draw up and I get a special card, do I discard it to satisfy the Enchanted Voices in play? I always assumed it ment at the beginning of my turn. I could not find it in the rulebook.

It only triggers once during your Must Do phase. After that, any extra specials you draw are safe, at least until your next turn.
