Bendigo is a bit out of the way, I drove 2hrs to get there, we only had 3 players...
We played Highlander 1st ed. , a few rounds:
Sealed deck:
A&T Starter
A&T 2 * boosters
Personas used:
Martin Hyde
Generic Immortal
Kanis
Kanis vs Generic:
Kanis's first hound dog (discard defense to play block) was quickly Policed, and his second one didn't make it. The generic immortal got a slash hit in somewhere along the way but overall the match up was pretty close, coming down to a win by first blood when abilities were 4 (generic) and 3 (Kanis). The Kanis deck threw a lot of head shots but the Generic deck had plenty of defenses and was only troubled briefly at points by exhausting earlier than the Kanis deck.
Generic vs Martin Hyde:
A lot of back and forth without too many hits, but in the end it again came down again to first blood with a win for the Generic.
Kanis vs Martin Hyde:
Kanis got hound no. 2 out first turn and while Martin Hyde with his +5 card hard resisted strongly and threw some nasty shots, losing a defence for every defence played (both block and dodge) caught up with him.
Both players had exhausted once and Kanis had thrown a number of head shots. Martin Hyde was running low on cards for his second exhaustion but had thrown two challenging attacks at Kanis. For the second one, Kanis was forced to play holy ground (show other player your cards) to avoid it. This led to Kanis getting the intel that Martin had only 1 dodge left in his hand. Martin tried to avoid exhausting a second time by not drawing up and then threw an upper attack at Kanis. Kanis took a chance (1 min time remaining) and let the hit through (2pts damage) in order to be able to play a head shot. Martin could not legally play a defense from his hand and had to exert for a defense... which was not forthcoming. Whupachah... thud! went the sound effects
------------
Constructed deck:
Hugh Big and Bad Rapier attack deck vs Kurgan Jam/Exhaust deck
Kurgan used the following cards:
Spiritual Centre location
Pagglacio (?sp)
Disguise (Kurgan)
Pedestrian (only hidden attacks)
Master's Strategem
Focus Situation
Crystals * 6
Pregame may discard and replace 2
Dojo
Police
Plot triplet: Weak, Tired, Exhausted
Nexus * 1
etc. etc.
in order to shut down Hugh basically from turn 2 and exhaust him.
Hugh got a few turns of attacks in here and there through the use of Dueling Grounds location, and managed to recycle cards briefly with Dojo before it was policed. Despite his best efforts though, Hugh spent much of his time exerting for nothing until exhaustion, exhausting out while Kurgan didn't have to exhaust once. Hugh had no investigate or focus situation to counter the jam effect, but even if he did, it would have been a temporary respite against such a killer jam deck.
Hugh was unable to recycle his Watcher Heals as planned (Joe Dawson/Conjure for reshuffle of endurance) and only used one.
Just to top it off, as Hugh became low on ability, Kurgan pulled out his multiple Master Head Shots combined with focus situation, swinging one after the other until Hugh ran out of defense.
Richie bit of everyone vs lean Duncan MHS deck
I missed a lot of this play but the short of it is, back and forth a while, Duncan got some hits in but exhausted quicker. When the cards got a bit lower, in the end the Jump/Leg Sweep/Master Head Shot combo was played a couple of times and topped Richie.

Four horsemen (8 boosters) + basics carried from the A&T sealed deck:
Generic vs Caspian (only 2 players for this)
Both decks were flush with attack and defense including block and strike, overextended attack, etc. but various Cassandra cards and Ballestrada (?sp) worked well for the Generic, and Caspian lacked the cards to make the most of his ability
In two battles Caspian was outpointed by the Generic, which also used biased attack locations to great effect, making up for the smaller deck size. There was a funny key point in one fight where Caspian had 2 monkeys in play and 6 cards (and ability) left, and the Generic played 2 monkeys to make Caspian discard his whole hand (discard 3 + 4), before playing a combination requiring two defenses, therefore guaranteeing damage.

Given that our game store is not receiving any product or communication we are looking to revive first edition, and run a sealed deck league, because who knows when we will get 2nd ed!
(BTW Melbourne has a lot more players than Bendigo!)
It would be nice if 2nd edition was around but at the moment for us it is as good as fictional rather than just based on fiction.
Only the bright side:
*we will have just as much support
*it will cost us a lot less to play
*when we have ordered first edition online, the sellers have actually delivered it .
