Well, I guess I'll be the first to post on here...Takes some pressure off I suppose as there isn't an established format. I believe the spread last night was three Duncans, A Grayson, an Amanda, an Xavier, and a Slan. I played against all except Grayson and I was playing Duncan. Now to run down what I saw and what seemed to work well.
My first game was against Amanda. I didn't see much of it in my game to get a good idea of it. I think a bad starting hand hurt it more than anything, combined with a pretty good start for me. However, it did seem to work well in the next round using steal. I think the dodges in the deck can really make a difference though, but that's just my two cents.
I played a pretty good game against Xavier. His plotting and scheming allows him to stay with a decent attack deck and still deal some damage back at you with Horton, Mustard Gas, and Henchmen. Xavier also has some really nasty combos as well.
I played two Duncan decks before another epic battle with Slan (Who kicked my buns in about five minutes our first meeting.) The first Duncan seemed similar in style to my deck. It was an offensive minded deck, I believe. The downfall was not getting many defenses in the opening hand, especially against a flurry of combination slashes. The second Duncan was a little more methodical. Saw a lot of allies and defense, but I was able to break through.
Finally I played Slan. Slan was far and away the toughest deck I faced at the tournament. The Sulphur Plant combination in addition to a hidden attack when not playing a special (via Q) really hurts as I was on my buns in two turns the first game. The second game, however, was a little different. The Sulphur Plant didn't get out into play for a while, which helped. Once it did make an appearance, I had three allies and Master's Endurance allowing me to throw a 0 card exertion power blow back at Slan, which could be hidden and to an area I blocked. A couple of times I just took the two point damage from a power block to save the exertion. In the end it was a very close game decided by one ability (stupid Katana).
As far as my deck goes, it is a fairly offensive minded deck. Lots of slashes and lightning strikes. There are a few allies in there to supplement and to allow for 0 card exertions if neccesary and to gain ablility back.
