Persona Profile: Hugh Fitzcairn
Once per turn, if you do not play a Special Card, you may make a Hard Exertion to prevent one damage for each found (to a maximum of two).

Overview
Hugh is an ally fiend, and perhaps one of the most defensive personas made. But that doesn't mean he can't bring home the pain when he needs to. He's got a strong offense to help with that defense.
Persona Specific Cards
Cavalier Hat : If you're power blowing, blocking, or using your persona power, the Hat is for you. In combination with Combination, it lets you get cards on the table with more reliability, and makes sure the good stuff (like Master's Wit) doesn't slip through your grasp.
Combination : Along with Lunge this is the first part of a two-part combo that's hard to defend and can do a lot of damage.
Counter: Duck: Avoid an attack and shuffle your Master's Wit, Combination, or Lunge back in? Who wouldn't love that?
Darius : Xavier's Henchmen, James Horton, and Grayson's Gothic Warlord can mess you up. Darius invites to his home on Holy ground, where you're safe. It's especially important against Grayson as your deck deals in a few power cards (Master's Wit, Combination) and a lot of support.
Duncan MacLeod : Everybody needs a toolbox. Hugh's Duncan gives him one that he can play and still benefit from even if the opponent never plays a plot. In a set with very little card cycling, cards that can play in any situation are great. With Grayson's Band of Brothers out there, Duncan is almost mandatory.
Evade: Escape : The standard escape.
Golden-Wire Hilt : This card gives you a good cycling capability, but forces you to use the rapier. Currently I don't feel Hugh's cards support the Rapier well, and the lowered damage hurts his Master's Wit. But cycling is good, so the Hilt bears consideration, especially in a deck with a large and situational toolbox.
Lunge : Currently this is a great attack. As sets come out and gems cycle it may lose effectiveness, but as of now only Lower Right Block and Amanda's Distract can defend against this from out of their hand. It also makes a great counterpart for Combination because of that. Just be sure not to play an attack before you play the Lunge, or they'll be able to defend against it and let the defense carry.
Master's Block : A typical Master block, but always useful. 9 grid defenses that don't cost attacks are almost always welcome in any deck.
Master's Wit : The crowning jewel in the Hugh collection, Master's Wit stops them from playing anything but edges in their next turn. It;s the perfect setup for a power blow, or a few attacks strung together via the Rapier and aided by Swashbuckler and MAster of the Rapier.
The Hunters : Most Hugh decks will live or die for their allies. The Hunters is also an card for use with Combination.
Trip : Another card recycler, this one strips away standing defenses instead of ducking attacks. Mix and match the based on the offense level of your deck.
Witty Remark : I'm not very impressed with this card. There's just too many other cards for Hugh to focus on for my tastes.
Charm : There aren't a lot of situation allies around right now to use this one, but the ones that are make great targets, especially Tessa and Richie Ryan.
Generics
Pistols work well with Combination, especially against personas with Back Away as their only dodge.
If you're not using the Golden-Wire Hilt then a quality Blade can enhance your deck's defense even more.
Locations
Irish Pub is both an for Combination and a good way to make sure you stand up from prone. Sulphur Plant can be useful, as you have quite a few dodges available. The Sea Witch also works in a pinch, as you've got lots of dodges and can do without standing defenses.
How to Win
There's a few ways to tightly focus a deck. One involves Master's Wit and Master Swordsman coupled with Duck and Trip. With 2 Wits and 3 Swordsmen (4 with Pre-game Darius) you could theoretically recycle them enough run the combo 8 times per pass through your deck.
Another route is the rapier multiattack with Master's Wit. It requires a bunch more cards to "go off" (Wit + Swashbuckler + 3 attacks + Master of the Rapier). Because of that it's a lot less likely to be recyclable multiple times. However, it's also less vulnerable to a dodge in their exertion negating all the damage. Because of that you'll be more likely do deal damage with it, but less liky to pull it off multiple times. If someone wants to build these decks and goldfish them a bunch of times (or just do the math), I'd love to add the results to the profile.
Finally, you can focus on Combination and a bunch of cards in play. Combination + Lunge and Combination + Pistol is currently the biggest damage output possible. From full health to dead in a single shot is possible, but more than 3 or 4 damage is much more likely. This deck's biggest weakness is Amanda. She's got an unrestricted dodge (Distract) which can ignore both Lunge and Pistol with ease.
How to beat
Hugh's power can be annoying, but don't let it stop you from attacking. Even if he ignore the two damage from your Poison Gas or paired Rapier Slices, he's still moving himself closer and closer to exhaustion and the 5 ability loss that comes with it. It also costs him the special he would have played, meaning you don't have to worry about a Master's Wit or Combination combo.
He's got a duck, and a d**ned fine one at that, so you'll probably want to focus on lower attacks as much as possible.
Overall
I like Hugh, but don't think he currently has what it takes to win the Prize. 7.0.
