Hello all,
I understand that while I have both of these cards in play, I can force my opponent to discard a defense from their hand at the start of my turn. The question I have is, if my opponent doesnt have a defense to discard... I see a couple potential scenarios as to the outcome. Which is correct?
1. ) I then get to discard or take the damage.
2. ) They fail to pay the cost so I take the damage.
3. ) I have pushed the full effect on them now, and if they fail they take the damage.
Battlefield (HtG-037) At the beginning of each player's turn, they must discard a defense from their hand. If that player does not discard a defense, they take one damage.
Crimson and Clover: DISCARD: Once per turn, if an effect requires you to discard a defense(s) from your Hand; you may instead randomly discard the defense(s) from your opponent's Hand.

Since it’s on your turn, and you are using Crimson & Clover to pay the Cost of Battlefield, you are assuming all of the risk.
At the beginning of your turn you may ask if your opponent has any defenses to Discard for Crimson & Clover. You can then choose to Discard from your Hand or one of your opponent’s. You MUST Discard from one of those sources. If neither has a defense, then take the damage.
