So I wonder if we would like to have a nation wide "gathering." next year? find a centrally located place where all of us that are left can meet for a couple of tournaments, discuss the future of the game, and just reconnect. If we do it then it should be a city with things to do, is centrally located, and has a decent airport. We would also need a place to meet and do our thing. I was thinking just a weekend thing sometime in the summer or early fall of 2018.
Thoughts?

I have wondered the same thing. With the chronicly low turnout at GenCon, maybe having Worlds at a different time and place would be better attended.

It's not a bad idea. To Prowlers point: Gencon may have broken attendance records, but how many people that go will want to also play Highlander when there are literally 100s of other games available to be played?

Well cons are a whole nother kettle of fish. They are events with multiple things to do, large site fees, and a need for volunteer. Lets say a Highlander con would be a discussion point at the Gathering.

Omaha is central in the US, and appears to have the largest active playgroup. We'd love to have people come here.

I'd love to do Recruits but it's still about 1900 miles from me. I'd vote Vegas, maybe someplace in AZ?

Omaha is centrally located but other then Highlander it is not exactly overflowing with amenities. Also I do not know about how well its airports is situated for those farther away, I was thinking St Luis, Chicago, and Denver as the most likely Cities. It would be nice if this was a vacation for all of us not just a get together for Highlander.
But saying that Omaha should be on the table because it does have a player base and then we would have a place guaranteed for any organised play. To me it comes down to the players on the coasts, where are you guys willing to go? Remember we have a whole year to prepare this.

I was thinking the UK so all the colonials could come back to the mother land!!!!! Hmm maybe I am 250 years too late On a serious note Gen Con is just sooo expensive and the hotels fill up really quickly. Somewhere else would be much better.

According to the google machine, Lebanon Kansas is the geographic center of the 48 states... might see a black Impala riding around there...

Vegas is centrally located if you use that new math Mr. Trump has been talking about. Vegas is a nice vacation spot and plenty of lower cost accommodations. Hinty hint hint

We'd need a venue. Maybe a hotel that would give us room discount and Convention space (just enough to run games).

Well every big town has game shops once we pick one we can call up and just clear it with them. I have yet to run across a shop that will not be willing to open up some space as long as they have a gaming area.
