The Highlander Immortal Ranking Game
This is a game that I enjoyed some time ago and thought I would Necro it. Invite anyone you think would enjoy it to comment.
Rule 1 - You are basing your view of the immortal on how you think they would have ranked if you took all immortals at their very best, the only exception is Duncan Macleod who you base as of end of season 6. Use visual evidence, Watcher files where possible, in many cases it will be simple conjecture though.
In the Highlander world there is always the chance of immortals escaping a battle, as we've seen many times. Rate them as how you believe them to be overall, as if each immortal fought 3 times, not a single match. I'm making it best out of three fights. First fighting giving the advantage to the immortals who give pretty much their best first time around. Second fight aids the thinkers who adapt. Third fight decides. Fights are based on tv-series rules.
DO NOT include Kane's illusion power, Cassandra and Kantos's voice, Xavier's Gas, guns, etc etc. This is about sword skill.
Rule 2 - Since most opinion will be conjecture no opinion will be slammed, argued yes, but at no time should a viewpoint be given weight over another because you think it should. In other words put your money where your mouth is, if you think an immortal deserves a certain placing you must convince us.
Rule 3 - Immortals from all parts of the Highlander verse can be included here, as long as the immortal you put forward has sufficient proof behind them. Except the Source and quickening, they never existed. I also did not include Kell because despite his hype the fight was so poorly edited that in my experience he can not be rated without a flame war.
Rule 4 - Adequate explanation of your vote must be put forward. I will dismiss any vote I feel does not confer an actual logical or thought out viewpoint. This is especially true for high ranking fights.
Rule 5) There is a 24 hour time limit between when combatants enter the area to the time battle must be finished.
Rule 6) Both combatants want to fight their opponent. Not a desire that adjusts who they are in any way, but a willingness and need to end the fight one way or the other within 24 hours.
Rule 7) In order for this to make more sense, let's assume for every fight posted the two combatants are the last two immortals. Both know the only way to survive beyond 24 hours (end of the world? WW3? Crazy Watcher army?..) is to take the power of their opponent and thus gain the power to stop whatever is coming, or at least survive it.
Every immortal wants to either save the world, rule the world or simply survive so it gives them all something to want to win for.
How to rank:
1= Can hold a sword. So basically most people are at least 1.
2= Can make a few wild swings.
3= Poor skill, a few basic poorly executed attacks and defensive skill.
4= Average skill. Shows an understanding of attacks and defence with the weapon. An ok swordsman.
5= Showing some significant skill with a blade, some competent sword-work here, both in attack and defence.
6= The start of the top skilled fighters, a good range of abilty, be it in speed, strength or technique.
7= Very good ability. Highly skilled ability in either form, technique, strength or speed. Would give a master a decent fight.
8= An expert sword. Shows remarkable ability with the weapon. In a straight up fight with a master will most likely land a blow.
9= A true genius with a blade. Shows almost mastery and understanding of the weapon, technique, speed, strength or power. In a fight with a master would be almost a match, and would no doubt land one or two blows.
10= Swordmaster. Complete mastery of the blade. One of the best in terms of speed, cunning, strength or power. For sure has a good chance of winning the prize.
The ranking isn't just about sword-skill per se. It also takes into account, speed, strength, technique, patience, tactics and power. Some immortals may not be the quickest, Kurgan and Silas, but their amazing strength makes up for it. Some immortals may not be the strongest, but their speed makes up for it. Some immortals are just power but with no real innate skill. Some back up their skill with intellect and cunning. As Connor Macleod said 'It's also about manipulation of the mind'. All these factors play a part in swordfighting.
Fight Location:
An Abandoned Warehouse in the late evening. It’s not quite dark out but there is less ambient light since the lights in the warehouse are low. There is a a lot of room to maneuver on the main warehouse floor but also a lot of material that clutters that terrain. There is debris and litter on the main as well as crates and boxes. There are also catwalks and an office above with steps leading to both.
Tie: In the event of a tie at the immortal being challenged for position has the advantage.
I have a list that I built below of where I think the immes lie in terms of rank but not beyond that. The order in which they are ranked in terms of their category after that is entirely up to the votes. Anyone can nominate a immie for promotion.
