Hi guys
I and my best mate have just started playing this game again and due to more disposable income and cheapness of cards have a fair amount to choose from. To that end I am trying to come up with ideas for a campaign in which the various immortals fight for the prize (a spangly trophy I'll get round to making). Now mainly we want the thing to be thematic with the decks for each immortal being suitable for that immortal (not just the same stuff in every deck cause it's good) so we are building in lines with personality.
Deck size is minimum 50 max 100 You can only put a nemesis card in once you have faced that immortal.
These pages try to set out the framework for a campaign style tournament for Highlander the card game. It is a system designed for fun not rigorous competitive play.
HANDY Disposition
All Immortals have a disposition this represents the frame of mind and willingness to fight of an immortal using the HANDY scale. H – Head Hunting – Angry and out for heads. A – Aggressive – Surly and spoiling for a fight. N – Neutral – Isn’t looking for trouble but not running either. D – Defensive – Looking to keep his head attached. Y – Yellow – Scared avoiding the game at all costs An immortal can change his disposition by 1 step up or down the scale per turn or 2 steps more aggressive if they move or 2 steps less aggressive if they stay still. Starting disposition for each immortal will be agreed by vote before game commences.
Movement An Immortal can move one space per turn to any space which is adjacent to the one he currently occupies. Once all immortals have had a chance to move it is time to see if fights occur.
FIGHT! If more than one immortal occupies a space then there may be Challenges, the two most aggressive immortals present in a space must consult the HANDY Matrix. By cross referencing the two immortals HANDY rating you will come up with a number this is the number (subject to modifiers) that the more aggressive immortal has to roll equal to or under to start a fight.
H A N D Y H 6 6 5 4 3 A 6 5 4 3 2 N 5 4 3 2 1 D 4 3 2 1 0 Y 3 2 1 0 0
Modifiers +1 if one of the immortals took a head in this space last turn. +1 If the immortals have fought before. +1 If the more passive immortal stayed still this turn after being challenged last turn. +1 If the more aggressive immortal is chasing.
FIGHT Results Fights can end in various ways here are the campaign effects.
Head Taken – Winner gets all quickenings from his opponent and may additionally choose one named card from his opponents deck to use as his own. This card may be any persona related card except signature or an Uber special card (Nexus, Masters Advantage, Darius etc etc). The immortal may not move next turn. Win but no head – The loser must immediately and secretly move to an adjacent space and may not move on his next turn. The winner stays in his current space and may move normally next turn.
If anyone is interested I'll post results here for all to see

Here are quick summaries of the first two fights
Kalas vs Fasil
As with all these matches we randomly decided before hand who would control each immortal I got Kalas with my friend getting Fasil. Things started well for Kalas who managed to sneak in an early hit or two thanks to combinations and extra shots as well as an excessive force with a police. Fasil for his part dodged and weaved throwing hidden attacks left right and center (quite literally) before doing the dirty and playing a masters disarm along with a disarm card then rolled a 4 phew! Kalas managed to keep hold of his sword and completed the unholy alliance plot just after which Fasil played his second masters disarm with 2 disarm cards and rolls a 2 d**n Kalas is disarmed and what looked like a reasonable chance of winning changed into a desperate fight for survival. Ok at this point Lady Luck smiled on the gravelly voiced former monk and with his first roll to recover his weapon he got the 1!!! My mate was gutted as was Fasil shortly afterward but as Kalas threw the inevitable head shot Fasil fell to his right and rolled away with his head still attached.
Result Win for Kalas but no head - Fasil retreats to Minnesota and will run into the Head Hunter Guy (generic Immortal) next turn.
The Kurgan Vs Luther
For this match I got to use Luther whilst my mate took the mighty Kurgan. Luther was only after the crystal and the Kurgan was only after his head the stage was set early by Luther manuvering the fight into a dead end alley only to have the Kurgan force him out again (Get away from it all on the turn after alley was played). Luther took what the Kurgan could give knocking off his Skull helmet (misfortuned) and taking hits that should have layed him low (Continuity and endure pain, dissapear and holy ground) throwing it all back at the giant landing the odd hit but not slowing the juggernaught down. Twice the Kurgan caught the younger immortal off guard and disarmed him, twice the undaunted Luther pulled another blade from his coat (Extra weapon for the win!!) Eventually the Kurgan Tired and was forced back into the alley where a flurry of hard to follow attacks (hiddens through combinations and trips) saw him fall to his knees where upon the victorious Luther stepped forward and with a shrug and an off hand 'should have just given me the stone' brought his sword down and took the Kurgans head!
Result - Upset!!! Luther takes the Kurgans head and gains the crystal Clio as well as the Kurgan card 'Follow Up' to use as his own.

Two games today the first was Caspian (controlled by me) vs Richie ( or Richie the pregnant dog as he is known) . It was a quick game Caspian scrambled to mount any form of an offence whilst Richie pulled out the worst the other immortals had to offer ( an Amanda seduce and a Duncan Killer precision) saw Caspian laid low but the older immortal managed to avoid the upstart completing his humiliation managing to block the headshot before escaping to Alabama.
Next up saw my Ceirdwyn with a spear deck take on Cassandra. This game was horrible once Cassandra got an enchanted voice out it all started going down hill it was followed by more enchanted voices (ending with 5 ) and although the witch didn't lay a single hit on Ceirdwyn she still fell due to throwing her all at Cassandra. It ended with Cassandra swaying (on 1 ability) above an exhausted Ceirdwyn who managed to roll away to safety. Ceirdwyn ran to Washington.
Wow that was an eye opener Caspian just doesn't seem to have a sane/viable direction and Cassandra well how the hell do you deal with that.

This is a good example of just how broken 1e can be when you do not add in either MLE or 2e cards. Several of the immortals put out at the end of 1e are BROKEN without MLE or 2e cards to help balance them out. Whats funny is at the same time Caspian and Silas are very weak and dont really have the punch they should have.

Whats funny is at the same time Caspian and Silas are very weak and dont really have the punch they should have. No kidding! We had a quick chat yesterday and have decided to carry on with Cassandra with the following addendum, Head Shot and Nemesis cards do not count as special cards for the purposes of Cassandras abilities/cards. Also we are considering adding Talia Bauer; Crysta Van Pelt and Nick Wolfe into the campaign. So any other Immortals that are broken?

Those three are fun.
There really arent any other "broken" immortals, just lots of broken combos and decks. If you are going to allow Black Raven cards, I suggest leaving out the Time and Trap cards, along with Weep For The World and the Black Phoenix Fan. 1e has very little, if anything, to effectively deal with those cards when used properly. You will also find that whichever of the girls (Talia or Crysta) that takes your cards and keeps them on her side will prove problematic if somebody builds a really good deck around it.
You may really want to look at using the Type One Rulebook, if nothing else but for the errata. The changes to cards and rules were made after HWR and I broke many a combo and deck using only 1e cards.

Thanks I have it printed out and I've glanced through it but will have to sit down and read it properly.
Oh and we both said no f'ing way to the time and trap cards already some of them are a little overpowered. Weep for the world is too good but we may allow Caspian to use it as it gives him something.
Not worried about killer decks as we play big 50 - 100 card decks and have to redo a deck each time we play but if anything appears to much we'll adjust/remove till it works for us.

Two more games completed last night
First up Xavier vs Duncan - This turned into a quite one sided battle as Duncan played 'you can hurt me but I have friends' using watcher healing and Anne Lindsay to avoid most of Xaviers nastiness. There was nearly an early win for Duncan as he pulled the Jump, Leg sweep Masters headshot about 8 turns in but Xavier managed to pull a back away from the exertion avoiding the combo. Lots of xavier cheese followed Unholy alliance, Master Tactician (an awesome multi use card) realising the end was near Xavier used hidden explosives to blow himself up and rob Duncan of the chance to take his head. Xavier runs to Colorado and straight into Luther.
2nd Match Kronos vs Hyde. This was an interesting match both immortals had counters (knowingly or not) for some of the worst things the other could do (Hyde had narrow escapes and the super block alertness whilst Kronos had no healing nullifying the stalk of hyde). Pestilence proved to be an annoying card and the Underground Tunnel likewise (especially when my mate policed my Masters Sanctuary). The fight was closer than it appeared due to Hyde having a six extra card hand but in the end those cards made the difference and Hyde came away with the win but not Kronos's head (it was close but kronos exhausted to 0 before Hyde could 'on your knees' him and thus an exertion allowed a block for the headshot). Kronos runs to Georgia.
One last fight for First round Nefetiri Vs Kanwulf.

Last fight is done The mighty Kanwulf and his favoured axe vs queen Nefetiri and her gladius. The fight was fairly quick and dirty Kanwulf got quality blade axe out quite quickly which meant Nef had her work cut out for her but she managed to hit the Viking once before a masters lunge followed by a stop hit laid him low. With frantic blocking and scrambling the Odin worshipper managed to regain his feet as Nef continued the onslaught. The mighty Kanwulf was out on his feet (1 ability) but played a sacrifice with no one to sacrifice but himself and escaped in the confusion.
Ok gladius is d**ned effective and quality blade axe is downright annoying to play against ( misfortune is going back in my decks). But the thing that is getting me most at the moment is the apparent inability to take heads am I missing something or is in fact not that easy to do?

Ok first games of round 2
First match Kern vs Ceirdwyn this was a quick match as kern exerted himself to exhaustion ( helped along by a retribution ) as Ceirdwyn deftly defended and attempted to slap the hairy one silly. In the end kern fell but managed to drive away on his Hogg to Idaho where he will meet Duncan next turn.
The second match was a much longer affair Kronos vs Richie, Kronos started well throwing out attack knives and debilitating effects ( pestilence and masters advance) but ran into trouble as the young upstart produced not only healing and preventative measures ( watcher and Anne) but a series of cheap shots ( boom boom, rush and stumbles) meant he couldn't get the youngster to stay down only managing to put the youngster on his knees before attempting and failing to summon the strength to land the final blow (exerted and failed to find an upper attack exhausting himself to 0 in the process). The youngster couldn't capitalise and Kronos escaped vowing vengeance.
