Highlander and Highlander 2 will be released on BluRay on November 2, 2010. Personally, I can't wait for this! Details below:
Highlander Blu-ray Coming Up Share6 Posted August 10, 2010 05:23 AM by Juan Calonge
An early announcement to retailers indicates that Lionsgate Home Entertainment is set to release the 1980s action/adventure/fantasy movie Highlander on November 2. There is no information regarding technical specification or special features at this time. This movie was released in the UK in 2009 and it became a heavily imported title (especially in its now-out of print SteelBook edition).

I noticed that the Official Highlander Store has Season 1 on BluRay and Season 2 and 3 on the way. I do not own the series on BluRay, but I'd recommend staying away from it based on everything I've read and seen pictures of. It is only in 720p and not 1080i resolution. I quote post-production producer of Season 1, Donald Paonessa from an interview he gave after receiving complaints about the video quality: "Also, the visual effects, which were done digitally, in a standard-def (480i) format, would not up-res to the quality of original negative re-transfer to HD. To redo all of the effects, transitions, Quickenings, etc. would be incredibly cost prohibitive. So the original film solution was not a realistic option for us and our 720p solution achieved the best and most consistent quality overall." If the post-production producer is saying that this is the best they can do, then that isn't a good sign. Also, the format is not widescreen, so there is "place-holder" artwork (pillars) on either side of the screen, framing the picture. Depending on who you're talking to, some people say it is possible to remove the "pillars", but even if you do then there are still thick black columns on either side of the picture, framing it. I've heard many fans who bought it on BluRay saying that is you already have the series on DVD, don't bother with an upgrade as many parts look just as good, if not better, than the BluRay equivalent. Found a couple of comparison screenshots: i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb213/ferdinandhudson/HighlanderBD/HL_1.jpgi208.photobucket.com/albums/bb213/ferdinandhudson/HighlanderBD/HL_2.jpgi208.photobucket.com/albums/bb213/ferdinandhudson/HighlanderBD/HL_3.jpgi208.photobucket.com/albums/bb213/ferdinandhudson/HighlanderBD/HL_1.jpgTo me, it looks like the picture quality is actually better and brighter on the DVD.... Also, the audio isn't Dolby Digital 5.1 as originally advertised, but it is Dolby Digital 2.1. Seasons 2 and 3 have already been pushed back multiple times...must be a Highlander product release thing...
