Hi All, I was thinking about Gencon and how I'd like to play about 40 different decks there. The problem with that is that I drop all the fun stuff, and play the most aggressive decks when there are few tournies to play in . I'd like the opportunity to play some fun decks too. I'm guessing there are more players in this situation as well.
Then I was thinking back to the WWE Raw Deal Hardcore Tournament, and how that all worked. The premise is this: you can challenge anyone who isn't currently playing in a tournament, with any type of deck you like (e.g. 2 Headed, Standard constructed, Lean and Mean, Big and Bad) and they can either play you, or deny you.
If they play you, the winner gets 3 points if by headshot, 2 if by standard win, 2 if they deny the challenge. The loser gets one point either way. The person who denys you gets no points.
You keep score, and have your opponent sign a score sheet. At the end of Gencon (say Saturday night, or Sunday afternoon) someone tallies the wins and losses and the points leader gets a unique promo (e.g. a championship hilt). Everyone who plays may also get a promo of some sort (with the printing of "Blood of Kings Tournament, Gencon 2015).
You can switch decks, and play whatever you want. The whole idea is to have a semi-casual tournament event and maximize playtime and fun while at Gencon. The biggest driver is that you can play corner case and obscure decks JUST FOR FUN, and if you lose, who cares.
Powers that be, would you be interested in running a tourney and providing prize support for such a tournament? If so, is there any way I can help?
Please let me know,
Hayus.
Others attending Gencon, would you play in such an event?

When we did play testing back in the 90s I instituted a tournament just like that so the players could play in as many games as possible that evening. One of the other players suggested it and it was called Bear Pit.
I will kick this around with HWR and see what we can do. Your Blood of Kings idea sounds really cool

Even though Damon Case is the strongest of all the immortals and would probably be played by everyone in every format ( clique84) I could probably be persuaded to play someone else for fun. *My only suggestion though is to pick one format to play. I don't have a billion cards to keep a deck of each format in my hip pocket at all times. My suggestion to keep games Fast and Furious would be Lean and Mean but any format would be better than many. That's my 3 yen. Jeff

Suggestions: There shouldn't really be a penalty for a duel refusal, as I can see scenarios where someone is trying to rush off to another event they have scheduled when they are challenged, and have to refuse due to nothing more than not having the time to play.
Also, staring us in the face: call it The Gathering?

I'd like to make a few amendments to the last post.
Indianapolis Gathering 2015? Or just The Gathering 2015?
Also, proxies for everything but quickenings is legal, so we don't have to swap cards between decks.

I am keeping an eye on all of these suggestions. Do not take our silence as our ignoring this.
I like this idea, we need time to talk it over and see if we can hammer things out. Please keep the suggestions on this coming, so we have an idea of what you all would like to try out.

If proxies are to be allowed, should images / card text be made available and printable for this? Use a watermark on the images if necessary.

I was thinking a trip to the photocopier. Personally I was thinking of the cards like Misfortune/Always the last place you look, or Police/Focus, things like that. It's those cards I'd like to have 10 each of, but only right around Gencon.
As for ideas, last year (as I recall) there was a gathering that I think Bill inspired. If there's another "The Gathering" planned for this year, why not slap the, "If played at Gencon 2015, you may put this card into play as soon as it's drawn" (or something special if played at GC).
