Heya! The following is taken from a posting on the Highlander Yahoo group made by Brent Bailey, it spells out the three tournament formats fully supported by the company at the of 2ed - Second Edition - Only cards made on or after December 15th, 2006 will be allowed. All 2nd edition cards use the Crystal mechanic and also all decks follow the Master Deck Construction rules. These cards are all white border. 2nd Edition is the new 'main' format and the World Champion of Highlander will be recognized from a 2nd Edition tournament. First Edition - All TCGames and Raven set cards made prior to Second Edition are playable. All these cards contain black borders. All cards made after December 15th, 2006 are also playable so long as they do not contain the 2nd edition only icon found on the right side of the card (only about 25% of the new edition). Entire new immortals are made that are playable in both first and second editions. If editions are mixed, colored deck protectors must be used. All major conventions will have multiple First Edition tournaments and a World Champion for First Edition will also be crowned. Lean & Mean - Both above formats will also be supported in the standard Lean & Mean rules. That's really great news! Thanks for posting it. I also like the idea of immortal-backed sleeves that Tim posted. But before I get screwed at another World Championship, I'd like to get confirmation that the location Battlefiled is a MUST DO and not a MAY DO Scott Kowalczuk Former New England Regional Coordinator Highlander CCG

Well if someone asks that question while I am at the championships, they will be given a rule book and sent to the lower bracket, so they have time to read up on it.

It's a shame you weren't the head judge at the GENCON 2001 championship. She ruled Battlefield as a "may do", which allowed my opponent to lose 1 ability vice discarding his defense. Because of this, he kept his defense against my head shot. Nice, huh?

I would think before becoming a judge for the World Championships, she would have known the rules of the game.

She spoke perfect English. She also robbed me of winning the 2001 World Championship (the only one I could ever afford to attend at that). I was playing a Cassandra / Enchanted Voice / Battlefield deck with an A&T Headshot pregame. I'm not bragging when I say the deck was very effective IF your opponent doesn't have the "choice" (aka "may do") of keeping his defense from Battlefield. I was so disgusted at this "ruling" that I finished the game and I left. That was the last Highlander tournament I ever entered.

Why would you even attack with the head shot if they had a defense? Was the ruling made after the attack was played?

Why would you even attack with the head shot if they had a defense? Was the ruling made after the attack was played? Correct, James! Battlefield was in play. I played an upper right attack and used my headshot pregame. On his turn he stated "In my May Do phase I choose not to discard a defense and lose 1 ability from Battlefield (or take 1 damage, whichever it is - I don't have the cards with me at work I called "bull$hit" and told him that Battlefield is a Must Do. He disagreed (naturally) so I asked for a ruling. The head judge conferred with the other judges and she announced that Battlefield is a May Do vice a Must Do. Scott

In the words of the Guiness commercials "brilliant!". Thank you, Tomi G. for robbing me of the World Championship. On a different note, why is my post count stuck at "9"? Scott

I am from Chicago and know Tomi, she is a sweetheart and meant you no ill will, just made a simple mistake. I do feel your pain tho: I was in worlds (the one right after 4h) and needed a ruling and Sam Orlando was no where to be seen, and lost my head to a ruling that he later said I was right on. I had to leave rather than deck him. Bill

Also noticed that your location is Maine. Last I knew, you were in New Hampshire and I was pretty much the only player in Maine.
